A BAD debtor who on Tuesday stabbed a person she owes money on the chest after being asked to pay it back, has been arrested on attempted murder.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrest of Mouldy Chinhengo Takaidza (23), of Hobhouse Mutare for allegedly stabbing Praymore Masuka (28) on the chest.

The incident occurred in Penhalonga. The amount owed was not disclosed by the police.

“On May 13 and at around 7pm, at Penhalonga shops, Takaidza was approached by Masuka, whom she owed. Masuka asked for his money, but Takaidza told him that she did not have it.

“Masuka insisted that he wanted his money back, and persistently asked for it. This angered Takaidza, who picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Masuka once on the left side of the chest,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.

The attack occurred at a food outlet and the knife used in the attack was not recovered.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said after the stabbing, Masuka fell to the ground.

Takaidza left him there and dashed to ZRP Penhalonga, where she made a false report stating that Masuka had attacked her prompting her to retaliate in self-defence.

Masuka was ferried to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare by a well-wisher.

He remains admitted, fighting for his life.

“However, the following day, a report of assault was made at ZRP Penhalonga, and police officers attended the  scene.

“The police proceeded to the hospital to check on Masuka’s condition, and noted that he had a deep cut on left side of the chest.

“They also observed that his condition is serious. He had no struggling marks on his body. The matter was then changed from a mere assault to attempted murder due to the seriousness of Masuka’s condition,” he said.

Ass Insp Chinyoka said the knife that Takaidza used to stab Masuka has not been recovered.

Takaidza was subsequently arrested.
