THE Zimbabwe Aerobics and Fitness Association (ZAFA) have applauded stakeholders in the wellness industry for spearheading the fight against drug and substance abuse among the youth.
Speaking on the sidelines of the second edition of the Drug and Substance Awareness Fitness Campaign hosted by Arena Fitness Club, in conjunction with Black Moses Fitness Academy, at Machipisa Shopping Centre in Highfield yesterday, ZAFA vice president Israel Mhondiwa praised concerted efforts by fitness academies in the battle against the drug abuse menace.
“We held an aerobathon that is meant to spread the message against drug abuse, as it has always been said communities are being destroyed, with youngsters having their future dented through using drugs, and we, the elders, being the peddlers,” he said.
“We are holding these aerobathon events in different communities because, with this kind of activity, we are spreading the message in a way that touches all age groups and cuts across all religions.
“Being the representative association, we are happy with the effort being put in by different academies in spreading the message against drug abuse in communities. We have held these aerobathon events in different communities.”
Aerobathon, he said, has been well-received by communities.
Black Moses Fitness Academy director Moses Nyamhotsi, who was the host of yesterday’s event, said they had acceded to public demand to stage another show at Machipisa.
“We met again yesterday for the drug awareness movement in Highfield.
“The reason behind having a second edition of the youths against drugs aerobathon was due to the community demanding it after we successfully held the first one last month,” said Nyamhotsi.
“Like what His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, has said, it is everyone’s responsibility to fight drug abuse.
“I am happy that the communities are now showing interest in this fight, as shown by an increase in the number of participants at our events from all age groups.”
