ZBC boss back at work

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation boss Tazzen Mandizvidza has bounced back at the national broadcaster. Sources at ZBC said Mandizvidza started work on Monday.

ZBC public relations officer Mr Gladman Bandama confirmed the development in an interview with The Herald yesterday.

“I can confirm that Mr Tazzen Mandizvidza is now back at work. He started effective this month and he is now the General Manager for Productions and Television Services,” he said.

Before he was suspended, Mandizvidza was general manager for news and current affairs.

He was suspended in November last year together with acting chief executive officer Mr Allan Chiweshe as part of a probe into acts of misconduct involving ZBC chief executive officer Mr Happison Muchechetere and his executive that was alleged to have prejudiced the ZBC of more that $7 million.

Mr Muchechetere and his executive are accused of being reckless in the management of the entity and unjustifiably enriching themselves through hefty salaries and loans.

This, it is alleged, was happening when the national broadcaster was in financial dire straits that saw its employees going for months without salaries.

Repeated efforts to get a comment from Mandizvidza were fruitless yesterday as his secretary said he was attending a meeting outside the workplace.
