JOSEPHINE Soko, a 25-year-old Zimbabwean fashion designer, took home the Outstanding Fashion Designer award at the just-ended She Millionaire Awards in South Africa.

With Soko unable to attend in person, her mother proudly accepted the award on her behalf.

Reflecting on this milestone, Soko shared her journey to create Imani Afrikanique.

”From the very first designs to building my brand’s reputation, I have poured my heart and soul into every step.

“This award isn’t just for me, it’s for my incredible team and all those who believed in our vision.
“It’s proof that hard work and passion can lead to beautiful things,” she said.

The She Millionaire Awards are known for celebrating women’s excellence.

She described the night as an uplifting experience, watching women from different industries being celebrated for breaking barriers.

“Being part of this community of strong, resilient women fills me with so much pride. It reminds me why I do what I do.

“Fashion for me is more than just clothing, it’s a way to empower people and preserve culture,” said Soko.

For Soko, the award’s significance runs deep.

She hopes it will inspire young girls who may now see a reflection of themselves in her journey.
“I want young girls to know that they, too, can dream big.

“To the aspiring designers out there, don’t let anything hold you back. Our work as Africans deserves a place on the world stage.

“I owe so much to everyone who believed in us and in this vision. This award is as much theirs as it is mine.”

Soko also thanked the She Millionaire Awards for creating a platform to celebrate women’s achievements and promised to keep pushing the boundaries of African fashion.

“This is just the beginning, there’s so much more to come,” she said.
