ZIMBABWE Revenue Authority officer Givemore Chirenje has appeared in court on fraud and money laundering charges after he allegedly facilitated the importation of goods weighing 554kg through Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, disguised as diplomatic baggage.

Chirenje (43) was charged together with Tawanda Juru (39) when they appeared before Magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa today..

The two were granted US$1 000 bail.

Chirenje is stationed at the Diplomatic desk as the sole diplomatic rebate approver.

The complainant is the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, represented by Violet Yedzayi Rupiya, who is employed as a supervisor and stationed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

It is alleged that on November 4 2025, detectives intercepted goods weighing 554kg at the airport, purportedly imported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

On the same date, Chirenje then approached the complainant, intending to clear and receive the goods using the fraudulent documents

Investigations conducted revealed that the goods did not belong to the UNDP. Chirenje, acting in connivance with co-accused Charity NFPK, who is still at large, allegedly prepared the fraudulent documents and gave them to Juru to collect the goods from the complainant, leading to their arrest.

The total value prejudiced is yet to be ascertained.
