EasiPark deal cancelled

Michael Chideme Municipal Reporter
HARARE City Council has terminated its parking deal with EasiHold of South Africa, which has hinted on taking the matter for arbitration.
Council cited breach of contract as the main reason for severing ties.

The city has not received a single cent from the deal, two years after operations began while EasiHold has failed to expand as previously agreed.
The termination of the contract means EasiPark, the jointly-owned company, will wind operations in the next three months as the city fathers prepare to assume full control of parking in the city.

The parties failed to agree, hence the shareholders’ agreement failed to take effect.
But according to the joint venture agreement, the deal is terminable “by either party giving 90 days notice”.
Harare business development manager Mr Alois Masepe confirmed yesterday that the city was now going to give the 90-day notice.
