Confusion over grain loan scheme in Midlands

Grain Marketing Board depots in the Midlands are reportedly turning away many communal farmers seeking assistance under the Government’s grain loan scheme demanding that they produce offer letters.
Many of the affected villagers are facing starvation and are now turning to the office of the Midlands Provincial Governor, Cde Jason Machaya for assistance.
Gumbo calls for completion of Zanu-PF verification exercise

Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo has called on all provinces to complete the verification of all their structures ahead of the DCC elections scheduled for next weekend.
In a Press release yesterday, Cde Gumbo said the commissariat department had advised all the provinces that there was an urgent need to have all structures, that is cell/village, branch and districts verified by a Politburo verification team before the DCC elections are held next Saturday and Sunday.
Gweru City Council warns urban farmers

GWERU City Council has expressed concern over the high levels of illegal urban farming taking place in the city and threatened to slash the maize crop cultivated in prohibited areas.
The city fathers said the illegal cultivations had become an eyesore.

Lightning fatally strikes two

TWO villagers from Matabeleland South province were fatally struck by lightning in two separate incidents last week which also left a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler with serious burns all over the body.
Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe confirmed the incidents yesterday.

Unpaid guards take children, spouses to work

EMPLOYEES at Guardian Security Company in Gweru reported for duty in the company of their spouses and families on Tuesday in protest over non-payment of their November and December salaries.
The employees said they went for the Christmas break without pay.
