Town clerk remanded in custody

CHITUNGWIZA town clerk Godfrey Tanyanyiwa, who is facing multiple charges after allegedly defrauding the council of more than US$700 000, was yesterday remanded in custody.
Tanyanyiwa (43) was not formally charged when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who remanded him in custody to today for bail hearing.
Tanyanyiwa, who is represented by Mr Everson Chatambudza, yesterday applied for bail arguing that he was not a flight risk as alleged by the State.
He also submitted that he was a family man who was ready to abide by any bail conditions. The State will respond to his application today.
Bigwigs refuse to pay Zesa bills

SOME Government ministers and senior civil servants are refusing to pay their electricity bills with others owing the power utility as much as US$100 000, a parliamentary portfolio committee heard yesterday.
