Poachers gunned down in shootout

TWO poachers were shot dead while another one was injured in a shootout with game rangers in Mkanga Safari Area in eastern Zambezi Valley last week.
The rangers recovered an elephant tusk, a .303 Lee-Enfield rifle, seven rounds of ammunition, food and clothes.
Parks and Wildlife Management Authority regional manager Mr Tawanda Gotosa confirmed the incident, which occurred last Sunday.
“We received a report that four gunshots were heard in the morning of a heavy calibre at around 7am at Kachowe area,” said Mr Gotosa.
“Our rangers responded and exchanged fire with the poachers and they shot and killed two and wounded another.”
He said there were no casualties among the rangers.
Mr Gotosa said the poachers had no identification particulars on them and their bodies were taken to Karoi Hospital mortuary.
Cabinet ministers corrupt: Mujuru

SOME Cabinet ministers are corrupt and looted subsidised farming inputs meant for ordinary Zimbabweans, Vice President Joice Mujuru has said.
She said this was an embarrassment
“In Cabinet, we understand there are some big names who have looted tonnes (of farming inputs) and took them to their homes. Zvinonyadzisa President,” she said.
VP Mujuru said President Mugabe was doing all he could to uplift the lives of Zimbabweans.
The President, she said, has worked hard to put in place the input support scheme, but his efforts were being derailed by greedy officials.
VP Mujuru made the remarks at an inter-district meeting at Pfura Rural District Council in Dotito, Mt Darwin West.
She was on a tour of her constituency of Mt Darwin West.
The remarks followed complaints from people in the constituency that corruption at GMB resulted in people failing to access inputs.
Malema asks to stay in ANC despite expulsion

Speaking at a gathering of the ANC’s women’s wing on his 31st birthday on Saturday, Malema said he would not challenge the ANC in court over his expulsion for bringing the party into disrepute, even though he believed he had done nothing wrong.
Instead, he has asked the ANC’s disciplinary council to allow him to keep his party membership even if stripped of the presidency of its Youth League.
“If we made a mistake, discipline us. Don’t throw us in the dustbin,” South Africa’s Sunday Times quoted him as saying.
Expelled from the party on Wednesday, Malema was given 14 days to appeal against the ruling.
An appeal would have allowed him to stay in his position as party leader of the youth wing until the appeals process was exhausted.
The ANC handed him a five-year suspension in November after finding him guilty of violating ANC rules by causing rifts in the group and undermining its credibility with calls for the overthrow of the government of
