Ngwenya declared national hero posthumously

THE Politburo yesterday posthumously declared the late Retired Lieutenant-Colonel Chilisi Buka Ngwenya a national hero.
Cde Ngwenya, whose Chimurenga names were Elliot Mnyamane or Black Swine, died on Christmas Day last year and was buried in Plumtree.
Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said Cde Ngwenya, who was born in 1948, was a courageous fighter who contributed immensely to the liberation of the country.
“Due to some difficulties, it has taken a bit long, but we have finally unanimously declared him a national hero.
“He was an astute cadre of the revolution and a great tactician and intelligence officer,” he said.
Cde Moyo said Cde Ngwenya was captured and tortured by the Ian Smith regime towards the end of the war.
“He was captured towards the end of the war and tortured severely. His stomach was ripped open and we actually thought he had died.
Biti implicated in IMF bid to meet defence minister

FINANCE Minister Tendai Biti reportedly tried to facilitate a meeting between the Ministry of Defence and International Monetary Fund officials which could have led to classified information being released into wrong hands.
IMF officials requested, through Minister Biti yesterday, to meet Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The team is in the country for routine Article IV consultations that deal with economic developments and policies of member states.
After completing its mission, it is understood the team requested to meet Minister Mnangagwa to seek explanation on claims by Minister Biti recently that the Zimbabwe National Army illegally recruited 5 000 soldiers.
Sources said the request was made by the head of the team, who was only identified as Mr Pedro.
Billing crisis bleeds Zesa

ZESA Holdings might be losing millions of dollars in revenue to about half a million property owners nationwide using electricity for free.
The power utility has 600 000 registered properties in its database nationwide and cannot account for nearly 500 000 other consumers.
Zesa says it should be billing at least one million properties.
It also emerged that thousands of residential and commercial property owners are reportedly illegally connected, while others bypass electricity meters.
Zesa seems not to have correct records of properties developed by housing co-operatives and residents who are subdividing big stands.
