Cowdray Park exempted from load shedding

Temba Dube
ZESA has agreed to exempt Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb from load shedding to allow continuous pumping of water from Nyamandlovu Aquifer to the city’s high density suburbs.

At the moment the city has the capacity to draw about 50 000 cubic metres of water from the aquifer daily, but it averages about 3 000 cubic metres due to power cut disruptions in Cowdray Park suburb.

The city has secured funding to rehabilitate about 26 boreholes to increase the pumping capacity to about  30 000 cubic metres, although a visit to Nyamandlovu yesterday revealed that work is yet to start.

Confirming the development, the city council’s water engineer, Engineer Ian Mthunzi, said the arrangement with Zesa would save the city as it needed all the water it could get.

Zimra, NSSA under fire

Leonard Ncube
A MAJORITY of Bulawayo companies are failing to pay tax due to lack of capacity, a situation which has forced the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) to hit them with garnish orders in a bid recover its money.

This came out during a breakfast meeting organised by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) at a Bulawayo hotel yesterday.

Zimra, the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) were the main presenters.

The breakfast meeting was attended by businesspeople from Bulawayo companies.

Businesspeople accused Zimra and NSSA of contributing to the closure or relocation of some companies through garnishing their profits to recover money lost through unpaid taxes.
