EDITORIAL COMMENT: Deal decisively with problems besetting UBH
The water problems at United Bulawayo Hospitals must be addressed as a matter of urgency. Dozens of patients are stuck at the health institution waiting to be operated on as one of the country’s referral hospitals battles with lack of resources.
Mayor makes stunning revelation
Temba Dube
BULAWAYO Mayor Councillor Thaba Moyo on Thursday evening stunned the Bulawayo Press Club with “strange” ideas on how the city aims to cope with the water crisis.
One of the journalists at the meeting had asked the Mayor if there were contingency plans in place to deal with the worst case scenario of rain not falling this season.
After pondering on the question, the Mayor said: “If the worst comes to the worst, we will use bowsers to ferry water from the Zambezi River to the city. We would use NRZ locomotives.”
Clr Moyo said the city was planning ahead on the water crisis and its plans were not based on personal comments by politicians, but reflected the situation on the ground.
“Even the Mtshabezi issue, we have never made plans basing on it. We have always gone on with our plans as if it was not there,” he said.
