Lightning victims’ relatives suspect foul play

RELATIVES of the four people who were burnt to death when lightning struck a bedroom hut they were sleeping in have said they suspect foul play and would consult on the issue.
The four, a 22-year-old woman, her two children and a niece were burnt beyond recognition in an incident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Sasame Village, Sigangatsha area under Chief Malaba in Matabeleland South Province.
The four were identified as Siphetheni Reason Mathuthu, her children Perseverance (two and a half years) and Zinhle Nyathi (six months) and niece Rosina Chabarika (nine), who was in Grade Three at St Sebastian Primary School.
Chronicle visited the homestead on Friday where relatives and villagers had gathered and everyone appeared devastated by the tragedy.
Mathuthu’s husband, Mr Willard Nyathi, who had returned from South Africa where he works, was said to have gone to Tshelanyemba Hospital as the family prepared for the burial.
