Govt to slash licence plates prices

Government will soon slash prices of licence plates for vehicles, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Central Vehicle Registry achievers’ awards ceremony in Harare yesterday, Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development Minister Nicholas Goche said the move would make vehicle registration easy for all people from different walks of life who own vehicles.

Vehicle licence plates are pegged at $160 while licence plates for a trailer cost $140.

“We intend to reduce the price of registration plates from their current price. We are targeting to reduce them further such that they remain affordable to every one.

“The prices have to be in the range where the department would not incur losses for producing the number plates.

I will resign: Tsvangirai

PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday said he would resign as MDC-T president and pass on the baton if he loses next year’s presidential elections.

Addressing the party’s provincial committee in Gweru, Mr Tsvangirai who was accompanied by senior party officials among them his deputy, Ms Thokozani Khupe, said his working with Zanu-PF in the inclusive Government helped him understand how to run the country’s affairs.

However, he said he would step down as party leader if he loses in elections scheduled for March next year.

“We have had a great experience working with Zanu-PF in the inclusive Government and we now have what it takes to rule the country, we should therefore work on winning elections next year. If we lose again to Zanu-PF I will step down and pass on the baton because I would have tried my best. It would be proper to let someone take over as the party leader,” he said.
