control and veered of the road, rolled several times before plunging into the river.
Matabeleland South Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Loveness Mangena, yesterday said the incident occurred at the 171km peg along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road at around 11pm.
She said the deceased and the injured were taken to Filabusi District Hospital.
Sgt Mangena identified two of the deceased as Tracey (22) and Christopher Javangwe, while close relatives of the other two were yet to be notified.
“Apparently the Toyota Ipsum, which was being driven by Edmore Javangwe was travelling from Masvingo to Cowdray Park in Bulawayo carrying nine members of the extended family.
“Upon reaching the 171km peg, Javangwe lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road and overturned several times.
“The vehicle finally plunged into Dalani River and as a result three people died on the spot while the fourth victim died upon admission at Filabusi District Hospital.
“Five people — including a three year old girl — were seriously injured and were taken to the same hospital for treatment. Two are reported to be in a stable condition while three others including the driver are still battling for their lives,” said Sgt Mangena.
