ZIMBABWEAN international, Tawanda Chirewa, says its heartbreaking to miss the Four Nations tournament due to an ankle injury.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who is currently on rehabilitation with his parent English Premiership club Wolverhampton Wanderers, will now watch from the sidelines as his Warriors teammates battle during the international window.
Chirewa has broken his silence to throw his weight behind the squad, promising to be the team’s biggest supporter as they head into camp.
“Obviously, it’s heartbreaking to miss a tournament. You always want to be on the pitch with your brothers,” Chirewa said.
“But, I am rallying behind the team 100%.
“I believe in this squad and I know they can do great things. My role now is to support them from here and send positive energy their way.”
Chirewa’s absence is a significant talking point, given his recent history with the national team.
“Right now, the focus is simple, get fit, get strong, and get back to doing what I love,” Chirewa added.
“I am working hard every day with the medical team. I want to get myself back to full fitness as soon as possible so I can rejoin my teammates, both at Barnsley and the Warriors, and contribute where it matters, on the pitch. I am eager to get game time and make up for lost time.”
The injury has been a recurring theme in what has been a stop-start period for the youngster.
After joining Barnsley on loan in January, to secure regular game-time, the ankle problem has limited his impact at Oakwell.
Barnsley head coach, Conor Hourihane, recently confirmed the injury.
