Midlands High Court Circuit closes, 144 murder cases cleared

The Midlands High Court Circuit for the first quarter ended on Friday with 144 murder cases cleared.

Five judges presided over the 144 cases, with three judges sitting at the Gweru Court while two were at the Gokwe Court.

Officer Commanding Midlands Province, Crime, Assistant Commissioner Hellena Mahonde said the police are happy with the way the judiciary is working to clear murder cases.

She said this will send a clear message to would be offenders.

“Those who were sentenced were slapped with between 20 to 40 years imprisonment.

Two convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment and as the ZRP we are happy with the sentences. They were so deterrent.

“We also appreciate the collaboration between the National Prosecution Authority and the Zimbabwe Republic Police which enables smooth work.

“We also thank members of the public for their cooperation during investigations,” she said.
