CITY of Mutare has launched a blitz targeting businesses with expired licences in a move meant to bring sanity to the local business community.
The local authority last month issued a notice urging business operators to renew their trading licences, whose window period provided by the Shop Licence Act lapsed on January 31.
Mutare City Council spokesperson, Mr Spren Mutiwi, said operators who do not comply face the risk of closure.
“Following the notice we issued that no shop will be allowed to open for business without a licence, we are now clamping down on all errant operators. Businesses have to operate in compliance with the Shop Licence Act, Chapter 14:17, Section 12, subsection 4 and we are out to enforce that Council by-law.
“We started the issuance of licence renewal reminders in October last year and we expect that by now all businesses are complying with the Act,” he said.
Mr Mutiwi said the local authority has partnered with the police to carry out a licence inspecting blitz and non-compliant businesses who do not regularise their operations will be closed.
