WOMEN farmers in Chimanimani West constituency have been commended for their effective farming ways which help in curtailing the effects of climate change.
In an interview at a district food and seed festival ceremony held in Chaseyama this afternoon, Chimanimani West legislator and Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, urged the farmers to keep showcasing their expertise in agricultural production in order to keep the country running.
“Such kind of farming guarantees the country food security while also contributing immensely to the economy. It is quite commendable that Chimanimani District continues to attach agriculture as the backbone of the country’s economy,” she said.
Minister Matsikenyere challenged the women to keep boosting the country’s seed reserves with quality seeds despite farming challenges caused by climate change.
The event was co-sponsored by development partner, Participatory Organic Research Extension and Training Trust (PORET).
PORET Director, Mr Julius Piti said the seed fair provided opportunities for marketing, selling and exchanging farming ideas among the farmers and stakeholders and that his organisation will continue connecting farmers in the district.
