ROTARY Club rolled out its 2023 vision on Saturday, giving priority to the most disadvantaged communities.

Speaking during an induction ceremony of the new executive, Rotary Club public relations officer, Dr Michael Bhebhe, who is also a lecturer at the Midlands State University, said the club was committed to supporting disadvantaged communities and those in need.

“Our vision for the year 2022/23 is to help the vulnerable communities and those in need.

“We have a role to play in making sure that vulnerable communities receive clean and safe water, supporting school children and supporting health programmes,” he said.

Dr Bhebhe shared some of the projects they have had since last year.

“Last year, we managed to revamp a dumpsite near the Midlands Children’s Home, which was becoming a health ticking bomb.

“Fifty wheelchairs have been donated in the Midlands province, which benefited struggling disabled persons.

“We sent an 18-month-old child to India for an operation, who unfortunately passed away.

“We are also paying fees for students up to tertiary level,” said Dr Bhebhe.

Rotary Club Gweru chapter president, Thomas Murehwa, said they were set to resuscitate Senga children playground as one of their key projects.

“We want to revive the Senga playground and open it up to the cheer of the children.

“Having been locked up indoors has greatly changed all of us and what better way to do it all than give the children a space to be themselves?” he said.

The club mobilises funds, mainly from its members and other interested parties, for the benefit of disadvantaged individuals and communities.

It’s biased towards health issues, sponsoring education, helping the disabled and participating in community programmes.
