A SEVENS Rugby Tournament featuring four Bulawayo based teams and out of town clubs is on the cards at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds for end ofA February, according to a Matabeleland Rugby Football Board (MRFB)official.
The senior sevens tournament comes hot on the heels of an Under-21 Cup Tournament that was played earlier this month and won by the Western Panthers that edged arch rivals Old Miltonians 20-8.
The Under-21 Cup replaced the annual season opener, the Zimbo Shield that was scrapped due to a lack of sponsorship.
a?We had intended to hold the senior sevens tournament in mid February but now are having issues with the out of town clubs regarding their availability. The Midlands State University (MSU) have indicated that they will be available at the end of the month and we are still in consultation with the other clubs,a? said Matabeleland Rugby Football Board chairman Theo Weale.
Panthers, Old Miltonians, Matabeleland Busters and Western Bulldogs are the four Bulawayo Clubs expected to take part in the tournament together with MSU and at least three more out of town clubs.
The Theo Weale- led MRFB executive has so far kept its word of a rugby packed calendar in a bid to revive the sport in the region.
Schools rugby is also top priority for MRFB with an inter schools provincial selection tournament expected to be held in the city featuring rugby playing schools both in the high and low density suburbs.
