THE Southern Region Rugby League resumes on Saturday after taking a break due to the recently concluded week-long Dairibord Zimbabwe Schools Rugby Festival that took place in Harare last week.
The Dairibord Zimbabwe Schools Rugby Festival is an annual rugby tournament where schools from all over the country converge for a rugby filled week in different venues across the capital city, which include Prince Edward and Churchill high schools.
Primary schools were also included in this yeara��s edition.
Rugby action returns to Bulawayo at the Hartsfield Rugby Ground when the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board (MRFB) run Southern Region Rugby League continues with three fixtures lined up for Saturday.
Western Panthers, winners of the Independence Cup played at the same venue on 16 April, rekindle their rivalry with Matabeleland Warriors while Masvingo-based Ancient City Rugby Club take on Old Miltonians.
Panthers beat Warriors 12-5 in the finals of the Uhuru Cup.
The Midlands State University who are based in Gweru take on Police Bulldogs.
MRFB chairman Theo Weale said the teams were raring to go after the break.
a�?It was important for us to break for the Dairibord Zimbabwe Schools Rugby Festival as well as the ZITF (Zimbabwe International Trade Fair). Two of our teams from Masvingo and Gweru will be travelling to Bulawayo to fulfill their fixtures,a�? said Weale.
