A CHIMANIMANI family is facing the rage of an avenging spirit after their father figure, an ex-Zupco bus driver killed a passenger in an accident sometime back in the 90s.
All this came to light after the man behind the accident, Lazarus Mutindori approached the Mutare Civil Courts seeking a protection order against his two younger brothers Happymore and Tawanda Mutindori and his elder brother’s child Tafadzwa.
He accused the trio of evicting his mother and children from his house, the reason being that he refused to succumb to their needs of cleansing the family.
Lazarus told the court that the trio all connived in evicting his mother and children, regardless of the fact that she was also their mother.
Responding to Lazarus’ application, Happymore objected saying that indeed there was an avenging spirit in the family of an accident victim who had been killed by Lazarus back in the 90s.
“Lazarus knocked down a person a long time ago and he did not appease that person’s spirit, not to talk of even informing the person’s relatives.
“He treated it all as water under the bridge and now the person’s spirit comes back to haunt the Mutindori family, killing everyone Your Worship. Tapera semakonzo (We are perishing like rats), and if the spirit is not stopped anytime soon, we will all die mysteriously as have the others.“A traditional healer told us that the mysterious deaths in our family were as a result of the person he knocked down when he was still a ZUPCO bus driver,” he said.Tawanda alleged that they were languishing in poverty while Lazarus and his immediate family were living a luxurious life.
“The matter of this avenging spirit has since been put before Chief Mutambara and I do not see any reason why he has summoned us here,” he explained.
Tafadzwa alleged that the spirit of the deceased stranger was responsible for the eviction of Lazarus’ mother and children.
“We never evicted them but I am very sure that the avenging spirit is the one which is driving them out of the family homestead.
“Help us tell him that the spirit needs to be appeased Your Worship,” he begged.
Lazarus did not refute his younger brothers’ claim that he had knocked down a person while he was still a ZUPCO employee.
Nonetheless, he disputed the fact that he had not informed the family of the deceased and appeased the spirit.
“The matter was dealt with way back in the day Your Worship and there was no need for them to drag me to traditional healers and the Chief’s court. I did appease the deceased’s spirit and I am clean,” he said.
A protection order which bars Tafadzwa, Happymore and Tawanda from evicting, insulting and forcing Lazarus into consulting healers if he did not wish to was granted.
