HARARE-BASED Afro-fusion singer, Isaac “Zeal” Mandava, says his music career changed the day he met the late legendary musician Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi.
The acoustic guitar player says he developed interest in music when he was young.
And, after years of learning the ropes, his dream was fulfilled when he met the late Tuku at Pakare Paye Arts Centre.
“Music made me the person I am today.
“I loved music when I was young and I could even compose songs while playing with other kids and I am very lucky that I met the music tutor, who shaped my career,” said Mandava.
He had help from other artists but Tuku’s hands transformed him to another level.
“I was inspired by a lot of musicians in different genres but Tuku’s hands transformed my life and my music career as well.
“With the confidence I have right now, I wish to collaborate with Victor Kunonga, Minister Mahendere, Sharon Manyika, Udzo Paradza and Patience Namadingo from Malawi, because l appreciate their talent.
“I would be happy to see myself reaching out to the world and touching lives through music.”
Mandava has a seven track album titled Chipo.
The title track Chipo, Moyo, Nzira featuring Donald Kanyuchi is one of the popular songs off the album.
He has released a couple of singles – Heal Our Land, Changamire featuring Collen Makombe and Ndega Ndega, featuring Hitondo.
The young artist has also done a couple of collaborations.
“I am working on a track titled Munongotichengeta featuring Ano Manyika and Makandida featuring Pastor Haisa.
“I am set to release a track titled Akudzwe, a dedication to my newly-born baby girl, which will be out beginning of August.”
Besides music, Mandava is a banker.
He holds a degree in banking and finance and he is currently working at NMB Bank.
