ONE of the most promising local accapella groups, Vocal Harmony, looks set to break into the mainstream gospel industry by composing and performing own songs. The outfit which has nine members – all Ordinary and Advanced Level students from Alpha Institute – has soothing voices that capture the hearts and souls of both the young and the old.

Inspired by the popular accapella musical group, Shower Power, the youthful outfit has established itself into an entity that soothes and entertains people at weddings, funerals as well as churches.

All the members are Seventh Day Adventists who hope to take music as a profession when they finish school. They recently wowed revelers at a musical concert at Courtauld Theatre where they performed alongside their music gods, Shower Power.

The outfit was formed in March this year and its members are Adrian Muchabveyo (16), Abiona Mataranyika (16), Joseph Machiridza (20), Tinashe Gwizo (21), Claudius Sada (20), Simon Jura (20), Opportunity Muzama (18), Tanaka Luwizhi and Hazvinei Dhlakama.

The group’s chairperson, Adrian, who is in Form Four, said the group consisted of a team of ambitious and passionate young musicians who aspire to preach the word of God through music as well as inspire other youths.

“We are youngsters who have the zeal to sing and heal souls. We are a group of aspiring musicians who learn new things everyday. The group Shower Power is our greatest inspiration and we hope to be like them in a few years to come. We are planning to compose our own songs as soon as we finish writing exams.  This will enable us to go professional. For the mean time we have scaled down practices since exams are around the corner. Our principal has been supporting us and that has given us the encouragement and motivation to keep going,” she said.

The college principal, Nangisai Marange, promised to support the group’s musical endeavours.

“We are there to support their talents. It is refreshing to note that they always attribute their success to God. They are a team of God fearing students and we wish them the best,” he said.
