PHENEAS Ruwocha, also known as Phenhes, is a Bulawayo-based TikToker who is steadily making a name for himself in the digital content space, with a following of over 30 000 on the platform.
His journey into content creation began shortly after he completed his O-Level examinations in 2021, although he only joined TikTok in 2023.
Since joining the platform, he has embraced it as a creative outlet, using it to share short comedy videos that reflect both his imagination and his observations of everyday life.
Explaining his niche, he said: “I create skits or vines (short comedy videos). I chose this direction because it allows me to think outside the box and get out of my comfort zone.”
Phenhes’s work is centred on creativity and experimentation, as he constantly challenges himself to develop fresh ideas and present them in engaging ways. This drive to push beyond his comfort zone has become a defining part of his content, allowing him to grow his audience and maintain relevance in a competitive digital space.
Among the many videos he has created, one stands out as his personal favourite.
“My personal favourite video is the one I recently created, which shows how people are desperately trying to get drunk or high without thinking about consequences.
“The video highlights how humour can be used to address serious social issues, blending entertainment with an underlying message that encourages reflection,” he said.
Consistency has played a major role in Phenhes’ growth, and he attributes this to his imagination and creative process.
“The imagination and ideas I get every night are the ones that drive me to be this consistent. These moments of inspiration allow me to continuously produce content, ensuring that my audience remains engaged,” said Phenhes.
However, despite being one of the top content creators in Bulawayo, Phenhes’ journey has not been without challenges.
He faced the difficulty of gaining recognition in an environment where local content is often compared to that from bigger cities and international creators.
“As a Bulawayo creative, it is hard to convince people from my city that our content is worth watching, because they say we don’t have the quality and standards compared to creatives from other cities and countries.
“Despite these obstacles, I choose to remain focused on using my platform for a positive purpose. I hope my followers receive positive messages and inspirations from every single video I create,” he said.
Looking ahead, Phenhes’ ambitions extend beyond personal success.
He is determined to create opportunities for other creatives in his city and contribute to the growth of the local industry.
“My goal is to pave the way for those to come after me and make it easier for any Bulawayo creative to go nationwide and internationally if possible,” he said.
