A HARARE-based young poet is set to launch her debut anthology titled ‘‘Profused Feelings’’ on August 12.

Makomborero Nhau, 18, has penned her first poetry anthology, which revolves around the plight of women, and several other sub themes.

The anthology focuses mainly on women emancipation, girl child abuse, sexual assault and harassment of females

Nhau said she started writing when she was doing her Form Two at Roosevelt Girls High.

“I started writing when I was 14 and since then I have never stopped.

“I was a runner-up in a writers’ competition in 2020.

“This book came out as an inspiration from my poems written over a period of time.

“Through the help of my mother and colleagues, I managed to submit the compilation for publication,” she said.

Nhau’s debut book borrows from female voices like Yvonne Vera, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Valerie Tagwirei, and others.

Her collection consists of 80 poems, which cut across various sub-plots, largely centred on the plight of women.

She writes in first person narrative, which suggests her close involvement with the topic and discussion enshrined in her anthology.

Her mother has been very supportive.

Nhau is already working on her second offering, Random Thoughts, which she says will consist of 50 poems.

“Despite the economic challenges I have faced to run the paperbacks for a proper book launch, I managed to print a few copies that I will launch next month.

“I wrote the book in the simplest of dictions to make it understandable,” she said.

Apart from women emancipation and abuse, she also tackles themes like drug abuse.
