Rtd Lt-Col Ngwenya burial today

THE late former freedom fighter and Zimbabwe National Army senior officer, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Chilisi Bhuka Ngwenya who died on Sunday will be buried at his home in Plumtree today.
Rtd Lt-Col Ngwenya died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on Christmas Day after a short illness.
He was 63.
Govt to stamp out misuse of BEAM— Prof Ncube

THE Government has an obligation to ensure that disadvantaged children especially at children’s homes benefit from the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM).
Speaking at a Christmas party he hosted for inmates of Vulindlela Guardians Orphanage, Industry and Commerce Minister Professor Welshman Ncube said some of the children were not benefiting because of high levels of corruption among those entrusted to administer BEAM.

Door still open for Maradona: Bilardo
PARIS — Argentina’s general manager, Carlos Bilardo, insisted on Tuesday that the door remains open for a possible return of former national team coach Diego Maradona.
Maradona led Argentina to the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they were thrashed 4-0 by Germany, and his contract was subsequently not renewed by the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

2011 Community Sports Development report released

A TOTAL of 1 054 coaches were trained this year under the Community Sports Development Programme in basic athletics, football, netball and volleyball training.

Mordicai Donga takes up boxing promotion

MORDICAI Donga, the former professional boxing light middleweight and middleweight champion is turning his eyes to promoting the sport in 2012 after spending over a decade in the paid ranks.
Patrick Mukondiwa of the Zimbabwe Board of Boxing and Wrestling Control confirmed yesterday that Donga had indeed applied for a boxing promoter’s licence.
“Yes we have his papers, his application will be considered in due course,” said the boxing board secretary.
Hockey Association plans to cut travel

THE Hockey Association of Zimbabwe will be making full use of the recently refurbished Khumalo Hockey Stadium next year.
The Stadium was refurbished in time for the Africa Olympic Qualifiers which were held in September.
