Mixed feelings on death penalty exemption

THERE have been mixed feelings towards this clause among civic organisations and women in general. The Women Coalition of Zimbabwe in its paper on women’s position on the Copac draft constitution explicitly pointed out that this is shocking as it was never one of women’s key demands for inclusion in the constitution and that there is very little justification for making that distinction between sexes with regards to crime. They maintained that equality of sexes must be maintained in all provisions.

THE Zimbabwe Football Association yesterday released the names of 13 players and officials who have been banned for life for their part in the Asiagate scandal.

According to the Zifa board resolution, the ban is with effect from yesterday.

“The bans shall come into force on the day they are made public. The first batch comprising two lists namely of players and officials who have been exonerated on the one hand and another list of players and officials who have been slapped with life bans shall be released today,” read Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze’s statement yesterday.
