Community share scheme brings hope to Hwange

THE launch of the Matabeleland North Community Share Ownership Scheme/Trust (CSOS/T) by President Mugabe in Hwange on Thursday last week has brought hope of a new leaf of development in the province that is regarded as one of the least developed in the country.

NSSA loses $11,2m land

The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has lost land worth $11,2 million. The land had been acquired from four local authorities after failing to develop it within the agreed time frame.

THE revival of industries in Bulawayo should not be done in isolation from other national economic resuscitation efforts but a holistic approach is necessary if Zimbabwe is to succeed in regaining its status as one of the strong economies of Southern Africa. Bulawayo was the country’s industrial hub since independence in 1980 and that status was maintained until the sanctions-induced economic meltdown which started in 2000 and peaked in 2008 when the Global Political Agreement was signed to halt the slide which was threatening to take the country down an abyss.

POLICE are ready to deal impartially with political violence to ensure a credible referendum and general election next year, a senior official said yesterday.

Speaking during a pass-out parade for 294 recruits at Ntabazinduna Police Depot yesterday, the Attorney-General, Johannes Tomana, said the peace and democracy prevailing in the country were a result of hard work by the force.

He said Zimbabweans should work with the police to uphold peace, in line with President Mugabe’s call to refrain from violence.

“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Mugabe has repeatedly encouraged the citizenry to refrain from political violence by exuding tolerance of people with different political views and ideologies,” said AG Tomana.
