Council avails 10 000 stands

THE Bulawayo City Council has availed about 10 000 housing stands as it battles to contain the ballooning housing waiting list estimated to be around 98 000.

In an interview on the sidelines of a two-day council strategic planning workshop at a Bulawayo hotel yesterday, the director of housing and social services, Mr Isaiah Magagula, said provision of housing was one of the council’s biggest challenges and cited inadequate funding as a major stumbling block.

“We have availed more than 8 000 stands in Cowdray Park of which 3 000 have already been allocated in trying to correct the double allocations after council took over from the Government’s Hlalani Kuhle/Garikai project,” said Mr Magagula.
