Fake Zinara licence disc racket smashed

Innocent Ruwende Senior Court Reporter
THERE are attempts to produce fake vehicle licence discs, just a few weeks after Zinara introduced new discs with high security features.

Two Harare men were arrested last week for allegedly trying to counterfeit the licence discs.
Oebryan Mapurisa, a director with a computer systems company, Intellitrack (Pvt) Ltd and his alleged accomplice, Henry Zishiri, a car dealer, yesterday appeared before a Harare magistrate facing fraud charges.

They were not asked to plead by magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who gra-nted them US$100 bail each. Ms Tshuma ordered the pair to report once a week at CID Serious Frauds.
They will be back in court on July 10.

Mapurisa allegedly misrepresented to Process Engravers that he was contracted by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs to print the new discs.

He wanted the firm to produce the discs using a template bearing the Zinara logo.

Mixed reactions to Moslem Brotherhood poll victory

CAIRO — Mixed views are emerging on how Sunday’s win by Moslem Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Mursi in Egypt’s historic presidential election run-off on June 16 and 17 will shape international politics, and more specifically, the Middle East.

Egypt’s Islamist president-elect, was quoted as saying he wants to “reconsider” the peace deal with Israel and build ties with Iran to “create a strategic balance” in the Middle East.
“We must restore normal relations with Iran based on shared interests, and expand areas of political co-ordination and economic co-operation because this will create a balance of pressure in the region.”

The sentiments, that were published by Iran’s Fars news agency yesterday, were however, dismissed by an Egyptian presidential spokesman who said Mursi never spoke to the Iranian news agency.

Fars had said Mursi spoke to one of its reporters in Cairo on Sunday just before his election triumph was announced.

“We will reconsider the Camp David Accord that, in 1979, forged peace between Egypt and Israel that has held for more than three decades,” Fars quoted Mursi as saying.
Analysts contend the change of government could lead to strategic partnerships between powerful nations and

Zimpapers Talk Radio hits the airwaves

Tendai Mugabe Senior Reporter
ZIMPAPERS Talk Radio’s Star FM hit the airwaves at midday yesterday, a few months after being awarded a free-to-air broadcasting national radio licence by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.

Star FM, which is broadcasting on 89.7 and 93.1 Megahertz in Harare and Bulawayo respectively, becomes the first commercial radio to operate in Zimbabwe after independence.
The station has a 24-hour programming schedule and its studios are located along Simon Mazorodze Road in Harare.

The studios are equipped with a state-of-the-art playout system that can run commercials, music and news schedules.

Zimpapers board chairman Dr Paul Chimedza remarked: “We are finally here and at Zimpapers history has been made at a national level and from a corporate level we have added another feather to our nest.”

He said as the country comes together to restore and rebuild its social, cultural, economic and political fabric, it becomes imperative to consciously underpin this thrust with a new message that celebrates achievement, extols hope, pride and love.
Dr Chimedza said as the country’s largest media house, Zimpapers found it important to step in and champion this cause as it diversifies its media portfolio for the benefit of shareholders and the nation.
